Art-a-Thon for Haiti

On Saturday, March 13, I participated in the Art-a-Thon for Haiti. This event, sponsored by Jerry’s Artorama, consisted of having artists painting “live” for every hour that the Rhode Island Home Show was open from Thursday – Sunday, March 11-14th, 2010. It was a great day to be with other artists, meeting lots of really awesome people, and to paint knowing that our donation of time, talent and artwork was going to be helping to raise money for earthquake relief in Haiti. All donated monies from the Art-a-thon will go directly to Haiti earthquake relief through partnering with the non-profit relief organization, Oxfam International.

For each donation made, each person received a chance to win one of the works of art being created “live” during the Art-a-thon or artwork donated to the event. A silent auction event will also take place on March 25, 5-7pm at Gallery Z on Federal Hill in Providence to raise even more funds for Haiti.

Here are some photos from the art I worked on that day and the people I got to meet:

I started my day of painting with a blank canvas, and worked my way all day through some work on three paintings. Painting # 1 and Painting #3 went towards the raffle, and Painting #2 returned with me to my studio to have some more work done on it until it is complete. I got to meet some amazing artists such as Kim Ellery, Arides Pichardo, William Muzzy, Maria Medeiros,  Anna-Marie Still, and Nixon Louis, an artist originally from Haiti. Altogether, it was a phenomenal day with some phenomenal people.
